My choice would be Ingmar Bergman's unnamed trilogy (Through A Glass Darkly, Winter Light, and The Silence) which are really only linked thematically as there are no connections between them as far as characters or plot go.

But people seem to think more about epics for this sort of list. That's fine. I'll curl up with my Bergman any time and you can't stop me.

There are a lot more overlooked film trios at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_film_trilogies - although some of those there are staining credulity as actual trilogies...

I was only going by the list I found on Gaia. I'm sure there are more that could be better.

Indiana Jones - it's got everything: mythology, fantasy, action, comedy, exotic locations, a rousing john williams score, spielberg, lucas, harrison ford, sean connery, a stylish hat, an unorthodox weapon, car chases, minecart chases, nazis, snakes, ancient temples.

What more could you want?

Indiana Jones.

So far i am shunning the sequel until i can see if it is phail or not.

Godfather was a close second....

bourne saga if it was on the list might have gotten my vote though.....

I think the first Blade was the best. The guy who played Frost was just awesome.

Many thanks to Merxiel for the set.

Three was rubbish. Although the guy that kept getting his arse kicked was reasonably attractive.

First one was by far the best.

Of course the first was the best...the first is usually the best. Here's one, though...Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...the movies. xD

Agreed.
.... although Big Momma's House 2 was the better of the two.

The seconds are usually terrible, brought up slightly by the thirds, imo.

Big Momma's house only has two films though...it isn't a trilogy...xD Either way...you're right. I actually think TMNT 2 was the better of the three, too, though. Like I said...the first is usually the better of the three...xD

True, there are only two, but the second is way better than the first (good thing I saw them the wrong way round :))... just pointing out the exception to your rule, thereby making it a rule :P

I haven't had the pleasure of the TMNT trilogy, though.

xD! That's a funny one. You know what? As many 420 enthusiasts as I've met on here...I'm surprised I haven't seen Shrek being discussed much...xD

Hahaha - Long live the Smurfs!

And speaking if Shrek, the funniest 'movie' was the "Shrek the Halls" Christmas Special. Half an hour of pure funny.
