Game Series

Postby Ozental » Tue Jun 07, 2005 12:17 pm

We all have our favorite games, many of which are universally popular. But not all games within a series are as good as their predecessors or successors. So, looking at a game series in totality (or at least the ones that you've played), what would be your favorite game series?

It's got to be Baldurs Gate for me - both 1 and 2 were fantastic games that the expansions only made better (although I was a little grumpy when you couldn't import a character directly into BG2 from BG1 without changing a number of stats, skills and losing a whole bunch of equiptment)

Final Fantasy was a close second, but to be honest I found the whole combat system so boring that I couldn't vote it number 1 :)

I must admit, I think you are right there. I just loved BG on PS2.

I voted for the Elder Scrolls.

While I found Baldur's Gate (both PC and console) and Neverwinter Nights very enjoyable, I couldn't help but constantly compare them to the actual pencil and paper D&D. Truth be told, I'd much rather sit around the table with a bunch of friends and play my D&D that way.

The Final Fantasy series is nothing to turn your nose up at either, but I must agree with a previous poster in that the battle system is just too tediously slow for me to get a full amount of enjoyment out of the games.

Kingdom Hearts to me is just Final Fantasy Lite.

I voted for Final Fantasy!

I totally love Final Fantasy. I have FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX and FFX. Planning on getting number XII when it's out. Also can't wait for FFVII: Advent Children!

That movie is going to rock!

Sure FF is a great series, but don't you find it just a bit 'samey'?

If you look at them, everyone of them are some form of RPG to a point.

Can't put every game series up there, and besides this thread is around 4 years old as is.

Zelda or Final Fantasy. No contest.

Kingdom Hearts is good, but it feels like a spin-off, like Dirge of Cerberus or something.

The only one I wanna mention is Pokemon. Maybe it's a generation thing, but we grew up with that. Never gets old..

Final Fantasy used to be my favorite, until Kingdom Hearts came. Kingdom Hearts isn't just a game to me, it's amazing and it's pretty appealing. From the start it was an odd idea to pair Final Fantasy with Disney, but in the end, it worked out amazingly and produced a popular game.

I'm going to have to go with Elder Scrolls on this. Final Fantasy was good, but the various Elder Scrolls, Morrowind and Oblivion in particular, were 'da bomb'.

Mines not on there, i think an Other would be a good idea.

My favorite game series is the suikoden series, i think they have the best of everything! unique battle system, characters, magic and great story.

The Elder Scrolls games for me. Open world exploration and the ability to kill anyone you want is just plain fun.

I have beaten every single one of them that have come out.. well.. except 11.. i did not really have any interest in that one.. but i am going to get 13 when it comes out... also i loved the kingdom hearts games.. i have beaten both of the ones that are out right now.. they are releasing another one but not for a few years

I definatly chose legend of zelda series.
A close second would be the gameboy versions of pokemon (blue, red, and yellow).
As for the rest, never had an intrest in playing them.

The Elder Scrolls hands down with pokemon in a close second (mainly because i grew up with).
EQ, BG & FF?
Don't get me wrong EQ & BG were very good games, but FF i stopped caring after the 7th game...but there is now...what? 13? To much hype over the same ol' bull (this is also only IMO, pokemon is the same in a way, but different in others).

I have to say, Elder Scrolls. The 4th was amazing on the 360. But I grew up playing pokemon, and it was even my first game. So Pokemon is a close second.
