I honestly don't know what to say with this. It's been a while since I was on the site, thanks to whomever put this on facebook by the way, but it's always been a safety net in life, knowing this place was here. I've met some of my best friends here, and some of my funniest/happiest memories are from 4am in the shoutbox.

The saddest part of this, honestly, is that the owners of the site don't love and appreciate this place as much as every single one of the members/moderators. It's frustrating that they'd ask such a ridiculous price, also. I can only imagine the frustrations you guys feel, trying to take care of our home away from home, only to end up here. But, as everyone else has said, it's the people here, the family, that keeps everything going, so I'll follow ya'll anywhere. :)

Well its a nice site, I'd miss it. But if a move helps things, really a site is just a site. I wouldnt pay thousands of dollars either for one unless I had a means to use that site to make back the money... and I don't encourage anyone to try making money off people writing with one another. I dont see what the big deal would be to give one or two moderators admin access honestly, they've been running the site for them for the longest time as it is.

I love this site. It's where I got my first real start in role-playing. I've met alot of really great people around here. I've been around a long time. I go on alot of breaks from it, but I always come back.

Why? The Moderators and the Community. Plain and simple. If it weren't for the dedicated Mod team that this site has always had, it would have gone down the drain ages ago. You want to know WHY this site is worth money? Why this site is ranked so highly on Searches? Its because of the Mod team. Every single one of them. Some I know very well, and have been around for forever. Some I don't recognize except in passing because I haven't had the good fortune to RP with them. But without them, this site would be nothing.

I can't even name an Admin. Honestly. Oz was the creator, but ever since he stepped down, I've never known a single admin. I've NEVER seen one post. The Mods post constantly.

I don't presume to speak for the Community as a whole, but the following statements are simply my impressions based on responses and past experience.

So this is my message to the Admins, from a longtime member (if they even bother to read this (or care):

If you want your site to be successful, give the Moderators the control they need to make it so. They know what is best for this site, not you. They are the heart of this site, not you. If all you care about is your pocket books, then continue to sell. The community, the Soul of this site, will follow the Moderators. Every damn time.

And to any prospective buyers: I don't recommend you paying 5 figures for this site if the Moderators leave. Your player base will not exist. The great community that makes this site worth that kind of money will disappear faster than your money.

To the Moderators: Do what you have to do. This community is with you.

I believe so, yes. I know Shewolf uses it to store certain threads on her Kindle. :)

Thank you so much for the support, everyone.

I love this site, I've even described myself as addicted to it, but to echo what so many have already said, it's the people that make this site a place worth hanging out. I will Role Play where my friends do, where ever that may be.

In fact, that's why I'm here now. I did NOT Google this site, I came here because a friend was playing here. SEO rank cannot trump content, and on a site about writing cooperatively, the players are the content.

To the admins: if this site is not high enough on your priority list to care for it, then let other people do so. If you wish to try and sell it, that's your right, but at least give the mods the access they need. It will help the community obviously, but wouldn't it also make your site more enticing to prospective buyers if it's up to date and full of activity?

As much as moving from a family home can be heart breaking it can also be helpful. She Wolf and the rest of the mods put it in clear terms that moving isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, if we move and people like Aya and Gideon become the new administrators the site would flourish!

In all reality I've been on this site before, long long ago, and it makes me sad that it had slowed the way it has but now I see it is due to the fact the leaders have not had proper access to make it run properly and that makes me angry! This site was once my home and I returned to re-establish the feelings and the memories I had in this place. I loved here, cried here, laughed her, developed friendships here. This site is a major part of my young life.

I say all of this to say this. Yes, we may be facing moving, yes this has been the home of many of us for months and years but moving would not kill us. Moving may bring more life in the long run. Moving RPGFO would not make it any different because it us, as members and staff, that has made this place what is it.

And it will be us, as members and staff, that will reincarnate it into a better home that will not only provide refuge for those who already exist on its planes but also a future home for those who seek its shelter!

I stand with you. And vow, no matter the outcome, that I will do my best, in whatever way I can, to make whatever site there is into the best damn site it can be!

And screw you, you greedy Admins!

Admins/owner don't have enough time/steadily losing interest and mods are ready & willing to take over for improvements. I understand both sides in every regard. Generally I support new upper management if they plan to the keep the old moderators around. But the way it's worded, it seems dire.

That being said, I sincerely hope something can be worked out. I've been here for 6 (!?!?!) years already (lurking partly, the other just reading in general, failing to start RPs :P), which is by far the most time I've ever spent on a forum. I've met many people, and has become part of my daily ritual where I just pop in, read something to past the time and be off in my day.

I wouldn't blame nor should anyone else put the blame on anyone if things don't pan out. Owners want to get something out of it since they had devoted their time, money and resources towards upkeep of the site.
To be forgotten is a fate worse than death.

The site will not be going down. If we leave it will still run, there just won't be any staff to deal with issues and spammers.

That's just as good as going down, do you know how ugly this site will be with no users; with no updates for years, and literally nothing but spambots and idiots? They'll never get a five figure sum, they need to suck it up and let the moderators take control at least to fix the issues they don't feel like handling.

Jeebus, this was still going down when I was helping out. Interesting to see how things progress. Without the members the site will lose even it's theoretical value.

Often people do not like change but change is a part of life and this is a good time to start again new.

Just so that everyone is aware, this has been going on for a year and a half. He has been trying to sell it since then and when he couldn't sell it for what he wanted, he decided that he would try and be more active. This has never happened. The website has not had an update in 18 months and the actual layout/interface/design hasn't changed in at least 7 years. The front page hasn't been updated in a year and we cannot deal with the spammers and bots that are currently infesting the site - a problem which could be fixed with a simple registration upgrade (i.e. a capcha system). This is something that the mods have been waiting to get information on for a very, very long time now, so please don't think we are just having a hissy fit because we aren't getting our own way. On our end, the running of the site is suffering, which is contributing to the trickling of the site. We need to do a refresh - delete trash and older parts of the site to keep it engaging and new.

As for search engine rankings, where we move to will rise quickly, because as everyone has said - members make the site, not a domain name.

Thank you guys so much for the support so far. It is very warming to see that we have so many loyal members who love the site as much as we do. Please continue to share the post around.

As much as I would hate to leave this site, to repeat what you've all said, its not really the site that made it special. It's been outdated for a long ass time now and the only real engaging part is the story and the people, which is us. As long as our new site is appealing on the eyes, I think it'll all work out.

I haven't been posting here for a while, though I have been lurking quite a bit. Personally I'm not a fan of change, but a move seems to be the best move for the community. It really has become really slow lately, from when I first started, and maybe something new and fresh would get it kicking again.

I must admit that seeing the front page is somewhat depressing. It doesn't speak of the delights within, it doesn't speak of the numerous awesome RP's that can be joined. Instead it says I haven't been updated in a long, long time. This isn't the shop window the community deserves. The community is vibrant and alive, the site simply isn't and without the admin powers to change that then we'll continue to have a make-do approach which I think isn't right for such a wonderous gaggle of gamers :-D

*blinks* Bring it, stinky!

In all seriousness, this doesn't sound too bad.

Yes, the five-figure asking price is ridiculous; it seems to me like a way of dismissing the moderators without taking them seriously. I can't see anyone actually paying that; not even a business, especially not for a niche site with no overtly visible means of income. Frankly, I'd think that the mods were the best chance of cash. Plus you were offering to fix up the site with content and prettiness for free if you got relevant permissions. It's a no-brainer, so I don't know what they're playing at.

But, on the positive side of things, the move means that we get a shiny new forum where we can carry on. I've seen a few sites that move every couple of years (Surreal * Twilight was the main one for moving) without really losing anything much.

There's another thing the mods need to be made aware of: GaiaOnline is shedding members like something that sheds all over the furniture. The reason behind it is that the new CEO in charge of everything has successfully alienated both the staff and the community members with his decisions. The upside is that we might see new members, if we haven't already, because they'll be looking for somewhere to go.

So, as long as you document the move somewhere like Urban Dictionary to tell old, inactive, but still-loyal, members about the move, I don't see a problem with this.

There's one more thing too: no-one notices the system that works too well until it breaks down. Perhaps this is necessary in the long-term.

The reason they are asking for more than triple what they bought the site for is to try and recoup the costs of running the site. That's like selling your house and trying to get back what you paid for electricity.
