I will agree with the people that said the majority of gamers (who are male) will use male characters, and sometimes use female characters. I have noticed that in some games (as in Ragnarok), when my friend played as a female character, he was getting free stuff left and right, hah.

I am more prone to playing as a male character, mostly because it relates to my gender, as sexist as that sounds. I am not a sexist in any way. In games like Diablo II, I do play as the female characters. Since there are so many guys playing, they see a girl character and go nuts. I don't want to see guys fighting over me, if I do say so myself. :P I'm perfectly fine with my current girlfriend, haha.

I often used to play as members of the opposite sex. I do so less now, but every once in a while it provides an easy way to break up my usual playing routines

I used to play the opposite sex once in awhile, but have not done so for years. It makes me wonder more about never doing it after seeing Ritz's "Be careful who you flirt with... It might be your buddy next door...". The guy next door is a total freak!! And I don't want a bunch of other guys flirting with me just because I'm paying a female, it's ok if they hit on the character in the game as an in character thing, but I don't think I would handle them treating me personally like that lightly.

I have played a game as a member of the opposite sex like once or twice, and I suck as the opposite sex, so I always play as a guy.

I'm always guys… my girls tend to be too much like me: Stubborn arses. Guys are just easier for me to write from.

I always play male. There are maybe two rps where I've been girls - neither were good RPs - or characters. If I need an effeminate character - I choose a gay male. Besides, inevitably, in an alcoholic boozy whirlwind, I'd probably post - she trippzordez ova er boobz LOL

I am much better at female, but sometimes when there are a lot of females already I will play a male. It depends on what type of roleplay it is.

I've tried to play a female once or twice, but have mainly kept them to npc's for my male characters. The category doesn't really work for me at all.

As long is it's nothing gay. I don't see the problem.

Umm is it not that RPing is taking the roles of people who are not yourself and portraying them to achieve some sort of enjoyable story?
Well I've rp'd all genders, most races (still a few out there to do), legal sexual preferences, and out looks on life.
There is nothing wrong with rping a character who is normally stigmatised after all they are merely a character and not you. Some people may wish to remember that.
I am the same with all my characters in their portrayals though none are identical merely sharing traits like extended families do.

Very True. I tend to lean more towards Female since I am a girl. But I will occasionally use a guy. Especially if you are taking the roles of someone from a movie or show. Like I could Role Play with Aang or Sokka or Zuko or and other guy character. Goku, Gohan. I used to do that all the time. Mostly with Gohan

Females are better than males. They are freaking awesome, especially the girls of TG4...

LOL I know my younger bro and I were very into FLYFF for a while-- and yes, I was always getting free stuff and players would go out of their way to help me-- even going so far as to let me take several 30 minute-sessions to kill someone in full-armor while my character was stripped down and weaponless (a hard feat if you're seriously fighting, but the steeper the odds, the more EXP gained). I was a knight and my bro was a healer, but he soon started over with a female character and fared much better.

Mm, I've probably only played two guys in my RP career that weren't utter throw-away characters... you know, disposable characters who are only used for mini-RPs, or in a single event.

Though now I'm playing a gay crossdresser in a Shakespearean Acting troupe (in the true sense, they were all men) and he happens to be a vamp. Though my portrayal of him is somewhat inspired by Billy Crudup's character in the film Stage Beauty.

Also have a guy character on deck for a Power Rangers themed RP with Arbiter.... Very excited about that one XD

In any case, my RP within the threads as of yet is rather limited, but presently my active male characters outnumber the females. More than anything though, I think I need to play at least one character that is downright cruel. Many of my characters are rather playful, no matter what their 'alignment'. Or maybe I could go for playing someone a tad more stolid.

Preach it, hon. I especially liked the last part of what you said, though, because it's something I've noticed with my characters but never really knew how to effectively put into words. I think you hit the nail on the head :D

I wouldn't go as far as to say ew it's gross, even though I feel it kindof is.

For me roleplaying a girl would be equivalent to crossdressing. Which would be just as disturbing for others to have to see as well as for me to have to do.

hahaha true.. but I don't think Role playing that on a site is quite as bad as actaully crossdressing on stage you know. cuz in the Rp .. people only see the character (imagine) while in real life they tell your actually gender... unless you have a lot of make up on...

Here's Clyde Johnathan...

That's just foul... I'm glad I came around to read that, cause that cross dressing is like eating slugs with out the salt...

I only rp women when it is beneficial to do so. On text rps I'm almost always a guy. But like on WOW I have a long-haired blonde female priest beeecauussee everyone wants a healer and girls are usually the most liked....basically I just went with whatever would get me into groups easily.

I always RP as a guy, I don't know how women think and so find it impossible to RP as one
