the answer comes in the name of a blade singer a master swords men who can both attack and deffend from one stance and is a strong mage. Only draw back is you have to be an elf. (elves rule!)

Strong Melee fighter with some magic. Melee is usually the way battles are decided. All magic fights are kinda rare in most Rp's but its still good to have magic incase ur caught with ur pants down.

Balance Is the key, but I find magic too tedious, so i'ld go strong melee, minor magic, because a sword can't bring light to a cave or start a fire ^.^
Enjoy yourself,

Melee is slapping, smacking, hitting, poking, thrashing, bashing, smashing, trashing, biting, slashing, stabbing, slicing, hacking and battering with your choice of weapon.

Magic is using a staff/enchanted object/own power/dragon's power to basically pwn given target, and often based on elements - fire, ice... etc.

I'd go for all magic - hit'm before they come.

I took A strong magic user with some melee skill

So i can keep distance while pwning another one.

And if he reaches me he would be hurted and stuff so i just have to take my little dagger up and cut him down....

I'm still learning the ropes of using magic in an RP.. I could write a story where the character uses magic, but using it in RP, believably, is... yes, as Ritz has mentioned earlier, it takes a bit of research to say the least.

Have a strong (though not super powerful) melee charie in play now, who also has a few or some magic skills, so I voted for the first option ^^

I would have to say a strong melee fighter with some magic spells. For instance, if you have someone who is a melee fighter - they probably have much better armor that any sort of mage would have. Thus - if you have a great fighter, with healing spells and a few magic spells then they are really a tough one to beat.

Hence Paladins in WoW.

You mentioned WoW - thus your argument is redundant.

WoW or not, I still think that someone who can fight AND still use some magic spells would be the best way to go.

I'd say I prefer strictly melee but i think some magic in the sense of adding that bit of over the top flare to combat. Like punching someone and having them go through a wall or leaping twenty feet into the air and yelling out the name of the attack to the face your about to use.

"HADOUKEN!"
"Like a G6."

You cannot fly, summon wierd critters, turn invisible, walk through walls, light fires, teleport, or make a hat out of old newspapers with melee skills. :sport:

If we are talking games then I would have to say it depends on the game for instance D2 sorc rules all... but say GW well balance is key... then you have WoW in which case give me My tauren Warrior in full plate with a huge axe with which to hack and slash and squish squishies... your basic wholesome rape pillage and burn unstoppable force... till that darn mage comes and freezes me in place... thats ok though, he saw the evil looks I gave him as I died oh he saw them and they will haunt him eternal... yep...

stupid mage...

ahem anyway Full blown weapons master with a strong bow and steady sword arm will rule the day more often than not... reason being training to be that good requires a constant dedication and discipline whereas a magic user need only learn the spell the responsibility to use the power wisely isnt there, a warrior knows if he isnt wise he will be dead sooner rather than later, a mage seeks power and once he has it seeks more.. Power corrupts, and in that corruption the lesson of should he cast the spell is lost in the shadow of CAN he cast the spell. Power breeds confidence arrogance and pride... and we all know what follows close on prides heels.

Good point, however, I feel that either way, you are granted power. Even though a mage will probably ultimately have more power, because technically a mage's powers are as limited as the person's imagination coming up with them (and god-modding bylaws passed in our minds...but ignore them for now). A warrior's powers do have a limit...the mortal limit. Unless there is some magical intervention. See? Magic ultimately rules.

You misunderstood me I never said the way of the sword was more powerful than that of magic, infact I think I voiced quite the opposite... I did however state that due to the level of training and discipline needed to be a weapons master that it was the better choice. Magic is in theory infinitely powerful which is where it suffers, as stated before power corrupts... you have I have no doubt read countless books where the warrior hero took up arms to usurp the vile wizard... or where the entirety of the world was plunged into war by a wizard or group of wizards. (Shannara or Mithgar to name two popular ones.. besides Middle earth) Now that being said... I cant think of any (not saying they aren't out there) where the heroic wizard defeats the evil warrior.. infact lets get honest... shy Gandolf, Allanon, Harry Potter, and Merlin how many times can you remember a protagonist of the story even being a full blown mage... latent magic ability or mild training not withstanding of course. and of those 4 notice that Harry is the only one not imortal or at the very least incredibly old... why? Because it takes times and experience to learn to respect power controled... so to your counterpoint yes you are correct... Magic ultimately rules... the users soul. Given that I would prefer a sword shield and my soul safely mine own and nothing elses.

A powerful mage, of course. I'd like to see a high level fighter take it up against an equally high level mage. The fighter's potions and buffs will run out some time, and when they do: he's toast.

Of course, in the early levels it's vice versa...
