Our New Home

Postby Gideon » Wed Nov 19, 2014 8:58 pm

<center>Our New Home</center>

As has been previously stated, it looks as though relocation is a very real possibility at this point, as the deadline is only a few days away and we haven't heard from the Admin, nor does it look like our emails have been opened.

So, in terms of the new site, please put forward any suggestions within this thread. In order to keep them organised, please just start with what you are discussing, i.e. if you are suggesting a name post like this:

Name
How about Blah Blah Blah....

Please post this way for features as well.

The site currently does have a name, but we are definitely happy to change it if the community would prefer something better.

Current Features of the New Site

You can bookmark threads that you are interested in, so that they appear on your Home page when you log in and you can see any updated activity.

The PM system has been approved and now works similar to Facebook, in that conversations are stored in a thread, not individual messages. There is also the "Quick Reply" option.

Your user profile is much more friendly and custom profile fields can be added. I added the "Relationship Status" but will happily add more if you can think of any.

The allowed avatar size for the forum is much bigger than this place too.

We are still adding new features, but any suggestions would be great.

Much love and thank you for your support -> I think I can confidently say that from all of the staff.

It needs to still have the capability to download topics, should anything unfortunate happen.

Name

This is harder than I thought since the good names seem to be taken. I'll edit this post later if I figure out something.

Extra

I'm loving the new features of the new site especially the new PM system since it'll make it easier to keep everything together and we won't end up losing things through too many messages.

Name(s)

RPGRevival

RolePlayRealm

RPGProvince

RoleplayRevised

Features

It's probably already been thought of as it's a feature already available here, but... BBCode... For the love of all that is good and just, BBCode. I was on a site that used QQCode and all formatting and edits just broke 90% of the time you attempted them.

Group-mail. Seeing as conversations are stored in threads having the ability to confer with three or four people at a time concerning ooc content and planning could reduce overall site clutter and just make some things easier.

Literacy subforums in the RP section? I like the setup we have now, where things are broken into traditional, modern, and sci-fi; but it would be nice to additionally break it up frmo there into casual, semi-lit, and literate(or whatever other names you want to call them) in my personal experience this makes it easier to find something to suit what level you feel like writing at any given moment.

Linked OOC and IC. Not a big deal, but I've seen some sites lately where when you post a new topic it posts an OOC, and the IC is accessible through a tab at the top. Makes it a bit easier to move around instead of having to cycle to page 1 and find a link the thread's gm posted somewhere. It would be nice to have, but isn't really anything major.

For naming, we want to stay away from names that make it sound like a renovated site. (revival, reform as mentioned above) This is going to be a permanent name and we don't want to carry that into the future. We're starting over fresh.

Actually; whilst Revised was in reference to this particular site's fall and re-emergence the other, Revival; I actually proposed more in the sense of the fact that rping as a whole seems to be slowly dying away. Almost 90% of the sites I used to visit to RP are gone, and even on those that are still functional the random chat threads are about the only things that get used, unfortunately.(not that I'm against chat, I just miss a lot of the people and excitement that used to make RPing great)

Still; I entirely get your reasoning, and still propose my other two suggestions wholeheartedly.

Name:
This might be silly but I just hate thinking that we will have to give up this forum's name. It just home-y. Perhaps we can do a spin off?

RPGFORU - An RPG FORUM FOR YOU!

Features:

Forum Layout: I know change is good, but I honestly think most of the forum structure should stay the same. It flows very well. Where topics are ; OOC, IC, writer's corner, drawings, requests etc.

Badges: I love this, I really do. A while back I actually posted an idea I had for more of a variety/special event ones.

Tenure: The same newcomer, journeyman, vet system but maybe post cost towards these will work differently? like Off-Topic posts won't factor into this., but will show in your 'total'. I have seen a few sites that you can operate like this.

Special Titles: With this new site will these remain?

points/karma : Will this be staying as well. is it going to be tweaked if so?

Intros: MAYBE an restriction for everyone to introduce themselves before posting in forums? then a certain amount of posts before ability to post in other areas?

points #2: if they will move over, can we atleast be given back what we had (in bank and on profile) <not>__>

Name suggestion is RPExodus, since that's what this basically amounts to.

Yes, you can send Group PM's. These PM's can either appear as individual threads between you and one of the parties, or big group chats.

Meow New Names

The United RPG Society

The Roleplayer's Collective

Nya that's all I gots sorry meow

As for features....

While it was already stated a bit; I really wanna see our awards and badges still be around int he new site- possibly even a wider array to promote more activities elsewhere?

Also if we keep our Karma/Points......maybe find a better use for them? Since a majority of us just let them pile on? (Like seriously a year ago I threw literally all of my accumulated points at Deebz to make his numbers odd) I'm not sure what these points would do for us, I just know I'd like them to be worth the accumulation if we keep it. Karma of course just shows off how amazing we are and ego stroking is always a plus lol

We are still talking about posts and karma, but I have always wanted off topic, and really anything that wasn't part of the cafe or rp section to not count towards posts. That would mean ooc would not count either. I never thought karma was really worth anything. Who cares how many threads one started. Again, unless it was an rp or story, it shouldn't count. Those are just my thoughts though and we have not yet decided on the matter. Points, I'm assuming everyone is actually referring to credits, still need to be talked about. Currently they are being used to purchase titles/ranks and were going to be used to fur purchasing badges. This may still be the case on the site.

Badges are being kept. It's actually an entirely new system with a lot to choose from.

Titles I think are also being kept. Well be keeping up the buying system for those in some manner.

Is the new site up and running already? Or are we just brain storming for things to make into it?

The it would be nice if we could keep something like the shout box. Also excited about the group pm!

So when is the big move?

The site already exists and we are currently adding content and features.

There is an SB that comes with it already.

We do not know when the move will be,.

I used to agree that OT posts shouldn't count towards overall post count but, honestly, I think that off-topic posts are every bit as important as RP ones when it comes to creating an active, online community. It's the part of the place that takes an assortment of strangers from all different parts of the world and turns them into a community. :)

As Aya said, we're still investigating the karma/credits side of things. I don't know that we'll be able to bring current stats over. That's a massive amount of work for the Admins, if it is at all possible.

Dunno if it's been said, but I really like the scrolling list of recent posts.
Doesn't even have to be scrolling, but a list of the most recent posts is awesome.

Along with a way to track our current threads, like Favorites.

There's a really nice bookmark feature that allows you to look at your bookmarked threads and who posted in them most recently directly from the home screen. :)

Hello, I'm very new but I've noticed a lot of people talking about the strength and value of the community here. So, maybe calling it something like:

RPGC (Role Playing Games Community)

or

RPGOC online community

As for points, if there's going to be a shop, points could be redeamed for merchendise, since having points means you're contributing to the site in other ways.
