Podcast Suggestions

Postby Aya » Thu Sep 06, 2012 9:03 pm

So some of our members are working on bringing back our podcast. Mikebassist and Train are setting it up and working out some specifics at the moment, but we'll keep you updated on when this thing goes live.

For now we're looking for member suggestions on things you'd like to have in the podcast. So far we have a list below and we will add to it as we get your suggestions.

:redbullet: Birthday shout outs
:redbullet: RP news
:redbullet: Forum Updates
:redbullet: Musical Interludes *maybe
:redbullet: Two podcasts (UK and US)
:redbullet: Member/mod guests

I was thinking of perhaps setting up a US version of the podcast. Since time zones and stuff could make it a pain to set up a time with members located in different nations. I have experience with audio software and wouldn't mind setting one up.

Guest stars could be a suggestion, like a different member each week. Obviously having two separate podcasts would make getting guests easier, given time zones.

Do we really want to push having one every week? Can you keep up with that?

I think starting two is possibly a little premature. I'd suggest having one for now with everyone's input and seeing how it goes for a couple of months. Better off all focusing on one and really making it work than splitting it all in half and potentially having two flops.

There's lots of time's everyone is online despite time zones and, worst case scenario, couldn't you edit different sections, recorded at different times into the overall podcast?

Maybe not to start with, but as we get used to the whole process, we can increase frequency.

Yeah, I had the pre-recorded segments thing put to me in the Skype group. I like that idea, Me and Train can introduce them, being the DJs if you will, then let them roll.

That's why I think two could be a good idea. they could come out bi-weekly and that way people have a podcast every week with the actual pod casters getting a week of rest.

That's what I was going to suggest.

Here's what might be best. We start with one as Mike/Train say. Do 2 episodes and see the reaction, get feedback. Do some tweaking and make a couple more and if it's still going strong we can split the content and do two.

Don't start two

It was hassle enough having one as I remember
I used to have all the podcasts from time ago.
Strongly recommend doing just one. Everyone from everywhere was included as they all recorded their own little comments and overviews. So really, there isn't any need :/

Why split everything up?

Honestly I don't see a need to split it at all. I agree with you. I'm just going off what everyone else has been saying was suggested. I don't think they really thought anymore of it other than they want to do their own thing. But I agree, it doesn't really make sense to have two. All the content is going to be the same and time zones don't matter since it's not live.

If someone wants to do their own, that's fine, but I'm thinking there is only going to be one official podcast advertised on the site.

Quote from me on Skype where this is being discussed atm:

Yeah but, and I mean this with all the love in the world, RPGFO (and all forums, tbf) members have a habit of saying they want or want to do certain things and then not necessarily actually doing it. Mainly because it's for fun and there's no real obligation. If we have 16 people behind one project it's a lot more likely to happen than if we split ourselves in half

Having the same conversation in Skype, think the general consensus now is that one is the better option.

If timezones become a problem, people can record their own segments and send them and if other people are interested in editing, they could be named "back up editors" or something in case you and Mike wanted a break/couldn't do it one month.

Personally, I don't really like the idea of splitting into factions, at all. We're one community. If we were to have two podcasts I'd rather they focused on different things but were still open to everyone than one be for US and one for UK, especially as there are so few active Brits on the forum.

Yes, the first two could be pilot episodes, to test the waters.

I just thought of a title for it, rather than just the usual RPGFO Podcast..

"RPod"

Again, I'm not understanding why time zones is a problem. If someone is going to do a spot, they record it and then send it to Mike or Train. I suppose you could do it and record over skype (if that's possible), but like I said above, this isn't a live recording.

Mike: I like it.

That makes the most sense to me, having the one podcasts with member submitted segments. There is always the possibility of having guest appearances using Skype.

Unless anyone has any objections, I'm going to officially vote for "RPod" to be the name of the podcast.

I'd say aiming for monthly would likely be the safe bet but as more prerecorded segments are submitted I'm sure as a whole the site could generate a backlog of sorts to edit into the show making a weekly thing easier if there's someone with the time to edit them all together each week.

Also, depends on how long each podcast is aiming for.

Definitely. Wadjet wants to make one, I know that much, but there's so many talented artists on here, it'd be a shame to let their talent go to waste!

I agree with Aya, time should not be an issue. I don't see why it would be because when a podcast gets put up- y'all can access it at the same time.

Also agree with Sammy, we are a single community and regardless of whether you're English, American, German, Japanese- it doesn'tatter because we are all one voice. So you'll have to put up with the hosts being a scouser and well... Me but does it matter? That's where everyone else contributes.

And agreeing once more with Mile- go, go go go get it

So, current favourite name is:

RPOD with the slogan "The Voice of RPGFO"

Thoughts or any other suggestions?

We have awards for really well written RPs (right?) maybe we could have someone (or a group of someones, with each person taking a character) read the RPs dramatically, and include that in the Podcast. Maybe not frequently (some RPs go on for a long time, and thus would take up a lot of space on the podcast) and require any RP to be completed before getting submitted to this.

After all, we are creating stories. Lets dramatize them!
