Looking for a small team to create an RPG (RPG Maker 2000)

Postby Respectable_Cheese » Fri Jul 15, 2011 11:13 am

Here is what I am looking for.

Someone with some sort of music composition software
Someone that is able to create sprite people and objects
2 people to join me in discussing plot and characters

The game is not in production. I would like a team of 4 people (5, if you include me) to work on this. I will, of course, give my team a download of a demo and a finished product.

Once the team is put together, we will discuss how we are going to communicate, then the writing staff will brainstorm story ideas. We will put the composer and the artist to work once all of that is decided.

This seems like a rather raw deal... I must wonder, what would be in it for us? I don't want to come across as rude or whatever, but I can't help but notice a few things.

If a 'writing staff' of two is required, you don't have a storyline to work on, and will at best provide 1/3 of this content. If a sprite artist is required, then you don't have unique graphics and cannot create them yourself. If a musician is needed, you don't have unique music and cannot create it yourself.

That pretty much just leaves coding... which is no difficult task in any of the RPG makers, and takes alot less effort than any large scale spriting/composing attempt. Hell, I was writing (simple) RPGs with it from as young as 12. (Also, RPG maker XP is the way to go bro). While I've forgotten the specifics of how to do some of it, I remember that it wasn't difficult in the slightest except for any *special effects* and such.

And then after that... would it be our game, or your game or a game created by your team, under your leadership of course? What would happen to any sales revenue or advertising revenue generated by the game? These details are important... especially when you want to attract such a monumental investment of time and energy.

I'd be interested as a writer/coder myself if you had more to show for your idea, but to be honest, it looks like something you just came up with a few minutes beforehand and threw onto the site. What assurances do you have that this wouldn't fizzle out and die... that our hard work, particularily of our composers and artists, wouldn't be wasted?

I would be happy to help you although I'm a busy person (making my own RPG at this time lol), Although I only use RPGmaker VX not 2000...

The writing staff will include myself. I would also do most, if not all of the coding. Just to make it fair and to make sure i'm working just as hard as everyone else. I'll try to get pretty involved with every part. I won't dictate how it's done. Just get involved, throw in some suggestions, things like that.

It would be our game. When I have someone help me create something like this, I give credit where credit is due. Even if just a small part was worked on by someone other than me, I would consider it our game. Not mine.

I had to think long and hard about the money issue. Of course, I won't be taking all of it. That would be wrong of me. From what I understand, Paypal is pretty popular. I believe you can send money with Paypal, correct? I'm not sure if the recipient also needs a Paypal account, but this is my best idea. Any revenue generated by the game will be sent from my account, and evenly distributed throughout the team that made it possible.

Assurances... hmm... can't really GIVE you any kind of solid guarantee. Just my word. I guess it all depends on the team. Anyone who knows me well knows that I don't give up on anything. I stick with it until the very end. Not sure if it's because i'm prideful, or because i'm stubborn. But I don't plan on letting this die. The only possible way that this game will die out is if a member of the team decides to quit. (And even then, we could try to have someone else continue the work) That all rests solely on that person. I can't make guarantees for other people. That would just be stupid of me. But, I can guarantee you that I will not quit until this game is done. I will make sure that everyone is doing their job. That we're 100% on task 100% of the time we're working. We'll try to have a little fun on the way as well. Make this enjoyable. Support each other. That's the purpose of a team, right? And, of course, all of your names will be added to the end credits. You will be given credit for your work.

Thank you for showing interest and thank you for telling me information that I needed to add. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask here or PM me.

And now, warty, thank you as well for showing interest. Especially with such little information that I provided.

I want to say that VX and 2000 work pretty much the same. Not sure if I would be correct in saying that. 2000 is pretty simple. Took me just about half an hour to figure it out.

Anyway, which role would you like to take? If JDogMcSnazz becomes a writer, we have one more writing staff position, one more artist position, and one more composer position available.

I haven't worked with VX in a while or even 2000, but I used to do quite a bit of work with it. I may be able to write a bit of code if needed. But if you'll have me I would love to join.

I can compose music with garage band and other music making software, I also know a friend or two that can make songs if needed.

I'm great at creating and putting together stories. I can use either software; I'm experience with both.

Overall I can do pretty much everything, although I focus on Storylines and character generation.

I can also do I bit of sprite* work. I'm up for anything.

*Could never spell that damn word.

Good, good, good. I'll put you on the writing staff for now, since you seem pretty confident in your writing abilities. You could be our backup artist and/or composer as well. Is that okay? I wish for you take whatever position best fits your schedule and comfort level.

Sounds great. One question though: Will we be creating the game itself together or is that only the writers Jobs?

Hmm... like, plot and characters? I welcome input from everyone, regardless of whether or not they're on the writing staff.

Okay; Writing Staff positions have been filled. Now, we just need a composer and an artist and we can get to work once everyone is ready.
