It's more enjoyable because it's easier to get people to positively interact with your character. Though having a scar or something can be cool; someone with a character who is described as butt ugly, unkept, anorexic or vastly obese, stinky, and rude is probably going to get ignored and avoided. Though it would be interesting...

I would have to say it depends on the rp. I enjoy playing and playing with a diverse amount of characters. I might have the itch to play as an Amercian Eagle modle at once time, and the next time i might choose to play as a whino.....i like to broaden my horizans because it helps my writing abilities to do so...

I've played the Hollister posterboy once or twice. It's interesting, but people seem to want more from those characters. I prefer someone who isn't attractive, but rather quite rugged, and older, near the fringes of uselessness.

Everything in fantasy role-play should be larger than life and that includes bewbz.
Of course if you are looking for pretty girls there is no shortage on the internets but it can be used to add "color" to a game.

I was just thinking about this to myself. Me personally I prefer just a normal friendly rp.

I believe that sex, doesn't make the game, but it can add a certain flare to it, if it is written correctly. Like a passionate, and loving sex, not a hardcore porno styled one.

Eh, I guess
But sometimes those kind of characters can be sexist, and also take control of you.
And you really can't boss them around, because they expect you to change your story because they want their's to be better.
So :\ Idk

This is a very challenging topic. For me, at least.

I grew up playing video games. My first favorite was Final Fantasy 2 for the Super Nintendo. You couldn't really judge the beauty or attractiveness of the character because it was super pixelated.

Over time, of course, you see a growth and change in the design. From pixelated to nearly perfect 3D work. Then computer games came into play.

I've tested out Ultima Online, seen the super-sexy outfits, the super-macho men. I've tried out other MMORPGS. (Dungeons & Dragons Online, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars...) Invariably there are incredibly buff men and the big breasted, skinny-waisted women.

I also read comic books. There's the same thing there. Fantasy novels are a bit different; you're left with the writer's descriptions to imagine how each character looks, but more often than not, the main characters are also rather handsome/beautiful.

To me, admittedly, it does bother me. It's an impossible standard to meet. For me, as a woman, it's a bit bothersome to see the big breasts, sexy outfits, impossibly slender body that I'd never be able to match up. Do I (and perhaps other women) wonder if we'd ever be able to match that ideal for our boyfriends and husbands, those who like to play said games? I do occasionally wonder that. Are we being equated with something that we could never, with all the money in the world, match?

And what of the men? Those big huge muscles and other *coughs* attributes *coughs* must surely also make guys wonder.

I dunno. Maybe it's because I'm an artist and I prefer to see imperfection over perfection in anything and everything. I don't want the perfect hero.

I want the normal, everyday person to somehow do the impossible: hang on a minute longer and thus, somehow, becoming a hero in the process. And that means their appearance should be "ordinary" too.

But that's just me.

It's always fun to have a character that can create sexually awkward situations, or hit on people casually for the sake of humor and/or a tension breaker.
But really, having a promiscuous character is more useful for the humor element and the roleplaying part than for actually doing anything with it.

I don't see it like this at all.

An RP shouldn't consist of nothing but sex sex sex. That just makes the game come off as people cyber-sexing it up. I've seen some of the games in the mature section that just make me shake my head. If I'm gonna do a full out sex scene it's gonna be tasteful, part of the story, and anything like that would only come into play when it was necessary. Every other scene shouldn't be: "Oh nice tits lets bone." and then go into some graphic, poorly written bumping uglies scene. :)

I don't like reading rps that are nothing but sex and no substance.

That's my two cents. :)

No, definately! If you want sexual content then go to porn sites, leave the games alone. ;)

No, not at all. In fact, it really annoys me. It shows that they've put more effort into "looks" than "character." RPing a really good looking character makes the character stink of "Mary Sue," which is characters that have impossibly good qualities.

Playing what you want to be rather than a character is not a good thing.

I'm one of those people who prefers RP to be forum/msn/pencil and paper..

Visuals are distracting.

So really, while I DO like to see a nice looking character. I get too distracted in MMO's by too much visual information to really get into the story. Which is pretty sad really... I haven't enjoyed video games as much since graphics got better. I like some things left to my imagination. Which loves to be poked, prodded, and put to good use!

I think some people got the wrong idea when they posted in this thread...

When I post a picture of the person I'm RPing, I tend to use the most vague picture ever, so other people can put a real face on them.

Sometimes... you know the point of rpg if you look a little deeper is to let yourself go, but always playing the awesome chik or the humonculus male gets kind of boring...

I believe the most important thing is to make the characters fitting to the story.
I usually try avoid overtly good looking characters in my usage list and try using/creating one more suited for the role. Indeed if the RP calls for a handsome man or buxom woman, then would be a good time, but again it should depend on the story.
However you are the on in the story, and thus should too try play as a character you feel most comfortable in.

I think about it from the view point of a character, whether they enjoy present company or not. Characters have to have chemistry to fit together, the setting has to be right or there's not really a point, at least in my opinion.
