Class Combo

Postby Ozental » Mon Sep 26, 2005 10:21 am

We all have different opinions about what makes the 'coolest RPG character'. For many it's the abilities they have in battle, whether it be by the sword, dagger or hand. For others, it's their background and the story around their lives and their adventures. There are a whole series of other reasons why you like, or dislike, an RPG character. But often the most common connector between all these things is the class of that character, whether he/she be a mage, warrior, theif and just a big old ugly bloke that can smash stuff. So let's take this to the next level and discuss class combos: Which would be the coolest class combo?

Thief/Mage definately. That was what Sarthyne was originally. Thief because of the way he was raised, mage because of events that happened later in his life. It always seemed a little unrealistic in battle scenes though so I took the mage part out of Sarthyne.

In my mind though it's still the coolest combination. You get the joy of being stealthy, the bonus of being a reasonably good fighter, and the power of being a mage. Plus thieves don't usually wear much if any armour anyways so that wouldn't hinder spellcasting, and if you're feeling lazy just cast invisibility and don't worry about sneaking into rooms, just walk down the hallway as if you aren't worried by anything.

I prefer fighter/mage. I always play characters that can fight physically and know a little magic. I like both and can't seem to give one up without the other. SOmething is always going to be imune to magic, so you have to be able to beat the living cra* out it. Also, if something is too strong and you can't best it physically, you should be able to blast it with magic.

Thieving skills is useless you're into that type of thing. As for the others, they're ok, I have nothing against them. I just prefer my fighting mage :D

A thief/mage could just summon a golem to beat up what he can't blast. Heh.

And you still get the joy of stealing stuff from people. You can even be a good thief, like Peter Pan, and only steal from evil people.

No Ranger/Mage? The ability to dual-wield up close, deal damge from afar (and silently as well) plus weild enchantments on arrows, weapons, and equipment plus regin hellfire from on high...awesome.

Out of the choices I would say Fighter/Thief. The more physical a character is the more I like them, now I'm not saying I want to play a big hulking brute or anything, just a guy with a cool blade ( or two) who can really make the enemies hurt with it, ex. Cloud, Squall, Victor (Suikoden 1 & 2)

I voted Thief/Mage.

But if it was a option I would have Voted Ninja/Wizard. That comes from a old comp game I play alot. Mordor: The Depths of Dejenol.

No! the correct defenition of a good Thief is. Stealing from everything on two or more legs, and sell for skyrocketing prices :P

I hate a magic... Fighter-thief can begin an assassin. In darkness bright magic isn't good thing, but knife...

I chose Fighter/Mage but really I would have a Fighter/Monk or a Monk/Fighter as 1st choice, then a Fighter/Mage

I chose Thief/Mage because my favorite D&D character is a Rogue/Illusionist and is so gunna kick butt.

A Fighter/Bard could be pretty cool if done right.

The Barbarian combos are a little weird for me. I mean, does a barbarian possess the intelligence to cast magic? I don't know. Maybe I'm just typecasting barbarians as brainless killing machines trying to get to the choppa' and such.

I cast for Fighter/Mage.
Those who play the game do not see it as clearly as those who watch.

Bardarian? A barbarian/bard with wardrums and such would be pretty damn cool...

I love mage/ fighter! i always end up choosing between the two in different games and it is really annoying!
i also think mage/ thief is pretty cool :)
but yes, magic has to be there!

Fighter/Bard!
Fighter because, well, you always need someone to bash stuff up.
I'm not sure waht bards do... (spoony bard?) but in the games I've played they could sing healing songs. A fighter that could heal is WIN.
Besides a fighter/bard is just an interesting combination.
