I think it's a good thing in RPs because it helps it stay up longer and makes it more interesting.

Playing RPG is about gameplay and story development, becoming a great hunk of a guy doesn't really help any of those, so i don't think it really matters.

Rarely, but there are some games where things such as these fit in with the rest of the game's characteristics and are therefore acceptable and sometimes even good. In most cases, however, sex doesn't raise the game's value.

I'd rather look at a secksi chick or a hardcore dude all day long as i waste away my life playing video games than an ugly guy/girl.

It's not that we live vicariously through our characters, but I find that saturating myself in the role-playing world, playing rather attractive or interesting characters, makes things a lot easier to write at times. Sure, I've role-played as myself a few times, and it's enjoyable, but I find that delving into the fantasy world means really being a part of it, and playing the sexier characters makes things more...exciting.

I second that!

I mean, when we roleplay wejust put ourselves into the characters. It's made me feel better a lot of times.

I don't know. I both agree with it and disagree with it. Sure its fun to have a very appealing character, but then agian if you play the character right you don't need to have him/her beautiful. In my opinion I thinks its the characters personaltie that makes it fun not the looks.

It's not really something I'd get involved in but hey it's just a matter of taste and personal ethics. It was this kind of thing that made me nuke my old myspace page; some people were starting to get out of hand...
Long story short: That's why I fear vampires.

Meh, I chose 'yes' but I'm not quite that much of a hornball. Granted, I did sell all my clothing and walk around as a nude elfess in the first Baldur's Gate, but that was for purely economical reasons...

(Well, that and the novelty of it. How often do you get to be nude in town and have people pretend not to notice?)

Consider I usually play "monsters" the answer would be a resounding No.

I find that a character being unattractive or just not super sexy adds to them being just a character in and of themself.

I find the use of buxom ladies and buff dudes for the sake of sex appeal in an RPG is pointless to me. It doesn't add to my experience at all and I sometimes find it annoying. A cop out if you ask me. I always site Boss from MGS3 as a perfect example of an older female character who traded in the skimpy outfits and giant tits for being more interesting than about %90 of the female characters out there. Not an rpg sure but you get the idea.

I'm not saying everyone should be ugly but honestly I don't think everyone should be beautiful unless theyre some monster of some kind. I just don't think making someone overly attractive adds to them at all.

I also find when I make characters myself if they are ridiculously good looking I try to make them as intimately unavailable as possible (except in a recent case involving a vampire character who simply due to the story had to be a stonecold pimp). I'm not RPing the OC here, i'm trying to do something interesting.

I mean would Darth Vader be better of he stayed looking like Anakin skywalker? I truly doubt it.

Of course it does. RPG's let you let of steam when your angry. Play them for hours and hours on end and never get bored. Just gives you something better to look at when they look really nice doesn't it?

You know for me personally I do not care what the character looks like, a good RPG should not entail if the main character is a beautiful woman, showing only enough to keep her modest. Or some burly guy, with a face that makes a woman Swoon. To me it is the gameplay. True that game designers now adays tend to focus on looks and looks, trying to pull in the younger crowds with Scantily clad women, and burly fighters. It is just the nature of the beast now adays.

To me personally I do not care if the main character is the ugliest Goblin around with a bad case of halitosis, if the game is fun I am going to keep on playing it. It is just that the way TV and Music is now adays, it is just the fad for people to be looking that way. Sex sells as so many times it is said. And I think RPGs have proven that I mean look at Final Fantasy X 2, grant it I have not played it, but based upon what people have told me you play only as women. Who happen to be very hot as one of my close friend says. Also another RPG that my friend over here was playing on PS2, Devil Summoner I think it was called. There was a line in the game:

Chubby faced girl, "What do you think of that guy checking us out?"

Schoolgirl, "I don't know kind of creepy."

Chubby faced girl, "You are lieing look you are all wet!"

Now it might have been very hot outside, but come on a bit over the top one would think. Grant it me and my buddies laughed over it, it was more suprising funny then funny.

I think that playing an unattractive character is alot more challenging and fun, more real persay. it's always nice to give your character some flaws. not everyone's perfect. then again, I can see the appeal for pretty characters, i use them alot myself, because since we aren't perfect, why not play someone who is?

No, I don't think so. Although all of my guys and girls are divas and divos. I believe in good looking assholes and good looking gentle ppl. All of my characters look like gods & goddesses.

I think it takes away from the character mentally and emotionally if he is based solely on physical appearance.

I can't really say that I ever go to extremes when making a character, maybe once or twice I've made someone very handsome or very ugly. I always keep something of a balance when I'm "creating". Usually, I'll make a mildly handsome character with a straight-out scoundrel personality, or vice versa. I can't really say, all I know is that it'd get pretty damn tedious pretty quick if you always created an overly good-lookin' character in every RP.

When reading we mentally watch whats going on as if it were really happening. If this is true, and if not stated otherwise in the text, we will always make the characters out to be the sexiest we can make them in our heads. (In my suicidal opinion)
