Spells and Spell/Mana Points

Postby tbuchwalter » Sun Mar 04, 2012 12:11 am

I'm developing a text-based RPG that is loosely structured around D&D and d20 rules.

I've gotten to a point in my programming / development where I'm building my spell and spell casting framework. Since in D&D you are allotted a specific number of spells you can cast in one day there are no instructions on spell points. That leaves me in a stitch because I'm using spell points which increase each time a character levels. The level 1 caster with level 0 spells typically starts gets a 1d20 roll to determine the number of spell points they start with modified by the relevant class modifier(i.e. cleric : Wisdom). My problem then becomes based on level of spell or type of spell how do I assign a spell point cost?

I am open to suggestions and ideas.

Thanks for your suggestions and help.

Try taking a look at that. Its the spell points variant for D&D.

That is helpful. Since I'm already using this as a guide. I'll have to really consider how to incorporate it into what I'm doing.

Funny that it was sorta right under my nose. :)
