I would have to say the chainmail vest. It looks pretty cool at least cooler than studded trousers. ^_^
Its seems as though individuality is something wrong now there are always rules surpressing true feelings and I for one am sick of it.. People who think they now it all have no idea of whats really going on...

I find jewelled necklaces to be quite nice. They're intriguing items often powerful ones at that

Ooo, this is a toughie. But I've gotta say...jewelled necklace! It can be used by any of my RP characters, and for many different purposes. It could be a gift from a special someone, a family heirloom, an item of immense magical power, a secret key to an ancient treasure, a sign of royalty, or simply something one bought from a tacky souvenir store because it looked cool at the time. Lol. The possibilities are endless!

I'd have to say gloves. My view is slightly biased due to my training in Western Martial Arts (historical European sword fighting) though... The reason I chose gloves was due to the number of techniques that require you to wear gloves or risk injuring your hand. Blade grabs have to be one of my favorite things to use.

A mail shirt (chainmail... ugh...) has to be my second choice. While the main reason seems to be that they "look neat", my reasoning has to do with the ease of repair. Mail only takes a limited number of tools to construct and repair. The worst part of making historical mail is the setting of the rivet within each individual ring... When producing a 20,000+ ring garmet, that is a lot of rivets!

I went with gloves too, you can have everything else but the gloves make the rebel, they hide the hands and protect them.

I am going to say necklace. Nothing like everyone wearing only a necklace. Oh wait, is this not how it would be?

Guess I thinking to much of LotGD armor comments.

Chainmail vests are too cool! I guess I got interested after reading LOTR. Because they can be hidden under clothing, and they look so interesting. Plus, cops use bullet-proof vests and that's like a modern day chainmail. These rough neighborhoods sometimes make me want to buy something to wear like chainmail.

Hmmm... I see that I seriously need to make an entry in the Academy Armory regarding mail armor (or chain mail as it is improperly called these days). I've personally constructed a full mail vest and have a half-completed full sleeve mail hauberk draped over a chair back in my garage. Fun stuff to work with really. :)

If a few people were interested, I'd make an entry in the Academy Armory with information and a "How To" regarding mail armor production. It is easy and cheap to with make actually. It is even apartment safe as there is little, if any, heavy tool work involved. The worst part is the time that it takes to weave a full garment. 25,000 rings can take some time...

haha thats what they did in lord of the rings they had like 4 guys do the whole armor thing... man just imagine about 200 sets of chainmail... wow that would take so long... one takes you how long? i would say atlest 6hours or so. any way write back.

I would say at least 6 hours or so.

6 hours?! Try 100+! And I weave at a pretty consistant rate of between 6 and 10 rings per minute, which is around the average speed that a professional works at. Also, I make each and every ring from scratch so add in around half-an-hour for each 400 rings I produce. The time adds up quickly...

Man just imagine about 200 sets of chainmail...

Here is where your information is incorrect... In LotR there was only about 6 actual mail garments used, and those were worn by the main characters who got close-ups. The rest of the "chain mail" garments (those worn by the extras) were made of interwoven and painted PVC. This saves both time and money when producing a movie where the majority of the armor is not seen up close.

On a related topic, the mail armor that you see in movies is not historically correct. I've never seen actual historically correct mail armor in any movie or TV show for that matter. :( Mail that is made properly actually consists of flattened rings that riveted closed using a small traingle shaped rivet. This in effect quadruples the production time that the armor takes for produce. At the current rates, mail shirts sell at between $300 and $600, depending upon how heavy of wire it is manufactured from. On the other hand, riveted and flattened mail armor sells between $1,200 and $2,500, depending upon the quality of materials and whether it is custom fitted.

Speaking of custom fitting mail, there isn't really any common way to fit mail. It is amazingly unlike cloth regarding how it flows over your body. As a rule of thumb, the best way I've found to size it is to multiply the actual body measurement by 1 and a 1/2. This creates a very comfortable and protective fit about 90% of the time.

I dunno why, but I really like gloves. Maybe because there's a glove for just about every purpose...

I'm going to classify guantlets as a type of glove since you wear them on your hands. I mean, come on, how cool would you be if you're holding your sword and the enemy takes a cheap swing at your fingers?

Chainmail vest. All the way. It is ultimate because it can block arrows, as well as sword thrusts, and is not nearly as heavy as plate armor or any other!

I'd prefer helms/ helmets.. cuz in one game i played they had such amazing looking helms/helmets one kind of looked greek/trojan while others had like spikes, they came in tons of colors and you could dye the color of the helm... so I'd have to say helm are my favorite... that or amuli armor which wasn't a choice.
